Leaked slide touts Nvidia Tegra 4 specs, including 6x graphics power

Mobile users curious about which chip might power their favorite gadget next year will want to get a sneak peek at the specs for Nvidia's Tegra 4 processor, promising six times the graphics power of the current Tegra 3.
Engadget reported Tuesday that a Nvidia presentation slide leaked in China appears to reveal the company's plans for its forthcoming Tegra 4 processor, codenamed "Wayne."
Featuring the same 28nm process found on the current (and very power efficient) Tegra 3 processor, the slide describes the Tegra 4 as packing 72 cores - six times the power of the Tegra 3, and a whopping 20x boost from the Tegra 2.
With all that graphics power, Tegra 4 cores will be capable of powering a display up to 2560 x 1600, 1080p at 120Hz and there's also a rather brief mention of 4K, should you have sufficient HD content to throw at it.

Nintendo Wii Mini release date, leaks

Well this one came out of nowhere, didn't it? It now seems as though the Nintendo Wii Mini is a genuinely real product and it will indeed go on sale in Canada in time for Christmas.
It first emerged that Nintendo might be considering launching a Wii Mini, last week. Nintendo World Report received information from "an internal release schedule at a major retailer" claiming a Wii Mini would be launched on December 7.

HTC DNA leaks in official photo

HTC is readying a 5-inch mobile-cum-tablet for the western market, and here's what appears to be its first official photo.
The HTC DNA is a repackaging of the HTC J Butterfly, a challenger to the Galaxy Note 2 that only launched in Japan.
The specs are said to be nigh-on identical to the J Butterfly, with a 5-inch screen that has a resolution equal to a 1080p HD TV. With 1,080x1,920 pixels, the screen resolution will be an eye-popping 440 pixels per inch (ppi). To put that in context, the iPhone 5's retina display only manages 326ppi. So the DNA should look amazing.

Xbox Music vs Spotify: music streaming services compared

With the launch of Windows 8, Microsoft is revamping its music service. Zune is dead (again) - long live Xbox Music!
Microsoft calls this an all-in-one music service because you can get free streaming music, subscribe to listen to everything or pay to download specific tracks you want to keep. How does that stack up to the familiar and comprehensive Spotify service?

Apple releases iOS 6.0.1 to address bugs, Maps unchanged

Apple has released the first update for iOS 6, bringing the new mobile operating system up to version 6.0.1.
But the most controversial feature of iOS 6 - Apple's new Maps app - remains unchanged.
Instead, Apple focused on bug fixes for iOS 6.0.1, addressing issues with the iPhone 5's Wi-Fi connectivity and its ability to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates, among others.

Google Nexus 10 vs iPad 4

It's all very confusing in tablet land: one minute Apple's making ten-inch tablets while Google settles for sevens, and the next Apple's making iPad minis and Google's unveiling the Nexus 10.
With a display so good you'll be able to see ghosts, the Nexus is a serious bit of kit for a seriously good price - but is it good enough to beat the latest, greatest iPad, the iPad 4?

Google Nexus 4 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5

Google Nexus 4 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5

Google's latest Nexus phone, the so called Google Nexus 4, has been one of the worst-kept secrets in tech history. Constantly leaked photos, even having a device "lost" in a bar means that we know just about everything that Google and LG are going to announce.
Hurricane Sandy may have stopped Google from holding its product launch in New York, but you didn't think that that would actually stop them, or us from telling you what you really want to know?
So, how does Google's next Nexus stand up against its fiercest competition, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 5?

Rumoured Google Nexus 10 tablet pics and video appear online

Pictures of Google's heavily-rumoured Nexus 10 tablet have appeared online, along with a brief video clip.
The Samsung-built tablet, may have been unveiled at Monday's scheduled Android event in New York, which has now been postponed due to Hurricane Sandy's journey up the east coast of the U.S.
The pictures and tantalising five-second video clip were posted by BriefMobile, which claims an exclusive first look at the device.
The site says Android 4.2 will still, as expected, be called Jelly Bean and not Key Lime Pie as some had speculated.

LG Nexus 4's wireless charging pad leaked image

The LG Nexus 4 may be an even more poorly-kept secret than even Apple's iPad mini was, and that's saying something.
But one of the earliest LG Nexus 4 rumors, which surfaced in early October just a day after the LG Nexus phone was first outed, claimed that the Jelly Bean handset would support wireless charging right out of the box.
Now, we may have proof of such a feature.
On Friday, an image supposedly showing what the LG Nexus 4's wireless charging pad will look like was leaked to the internet by an "anonymous tipster."

Five reasons why Windows 8 has Apple and Google beaten

Microsoft is onto something. With Windows 8 it's better positioned than both Apple and Google to ride the coming laptop-tablet convergence wave.
It might even eventually give Microsoft a shot at the all-important smartphone market. To understand why, let's count the ways in which Windows 8 is best.

How to buy a Windows 8 laptop, desktop or tablet

Windows 8 is now with us. Microsoft says it's the biggest thing since Windows 95 - its new user interface is certainly one of the biggest gambles Microsoft has made.
Windows has been brought kicking and screaming into the touchscreen era against a competitive backdrop of iPads, Android devices and even Microsoft's own Windows Phone smartphone OS.
Microsoft made attempts at retro-fitting previous versions of Windows with touch, but - quite frankly - it was a terrible thing.

iPad mini review

Getting hands-on with the iPad mini could just as easily be called a "hand-on" since it's so easy to hold one-handed, and tap with the other. The first thing you notice when you pick it up is just how thin and light it is. With a smooth aluminum back, you feel like you could flip it like a coin, or spin it on your palm. It's as thin as a pencil and as light as a legal-size pad of paper - both nearly insignificant feeling objects.

The Difference Key iPad 3 and iPad 4

Whats the difference?

We thought we knew everything that was coming in today's iPad Mini launch, there were very little surprises. However one thing we didn't count on was the emergence of another "full sized" iPad.
Breaking their traditional annual product cycles, Apple announced its 4th iteration of the iPad series, with the new iPad 3 only hitting shelves in March of this year.
Interestingly, the 4th generation iPad has been released to completely replace the 3rd generation, and has now been named "iPad with Retina display."
So what does the latest generation of iPad bring to the table?

Samsung I9260 Galaxy Premier GLBenchmark scores reveal GPU

The Samsung I9260 Galaxy Premier was once rumored as the next Galaxy Nexus phone, but those rumors were renounced. The Premier sits somewhere between the Galaxy S III and the S III mini and now we know its GPU (and most likely chipset) thanks to a GLBenchmark score.
GLBenchmark reports Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and 720p resolution (that's exactly 1280 x 720 pixels, which confirms there won't be on-screen controls). The CPU max frequency is listed as 1.5GHz and while the number of cores was left out, the rumors point to a dual-core processor.
The GPU is a PowerVR SGX 544, very similar to the SGX543 found in Apple's latest chipsets. All of this - plus some AnTuTu scores from last week - point to a TI OMAP 4470 chipset (recently used in Amazon's Kindle Fire HD 8.9 tablet).

Skype for Windows 8 arrives with battery-saving features

New UI brings boatload of new tricks

Skype for Windows 8 has been officially unveiled, offering a 'completely new Skype experience'.
The new software has been redesigned to bring a constant connection without smashing your laptop or tablet's battery life.
This is achieved through Windows 8 integration using a single connection to ping the server rather than performing the task as a separate action from the app itself, which allows Skype to stay happily running in the background.
The UI has been redesigned too, featuring options like Snap mode, which allows you to resize the video chat to enable multi-tasking – apparently you'd want to be mapping or emailing while chatting with your best friend. We'd call that rude, but whatever.

Samsung evidently pushes flexible AMOLED display release to 2013

Samsung is in no hurry to bring out its first commercial flexible AMOLED displays, thanks largely to the fact traditional displays are doing just fine.
Reports from Korean website ETNews indicate that Samsung has placed the bendy AMOLED screens on the back burner until next year.
Instead, the company apparently wants to focus on increasing flat display production.
Samsung is seeking to increase its AMOLED production from 56,000 units per month to a 64,000 unit per month yield to keep up with demand for current smartphones like Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.
To meet that increase in production, some of the pilot lines manufacturing flexible AMOLED displays have been converted to glass AMOLED lines, slowing bendy AMOLED progress.

Android 4.2 may enable multiple user accounts

Multiple user account logins may be announced at Google's Oct. 29 event in New York City, giving further credence to its "the playground is open" RSVP tease.
Families, workgroups and anyone who shares an Android-powered tablet would benefit the most from this highly requested feature.
The real surprise would be if Google combines being able to log in to a personalized account on a shared device with being able to use Face Unlock - a feature introduced in Ice Cream Sandwich.
None of this is a guaranteed for Android 4.2. But leaked system code picked up by Android Police strongly hints at the existence of multiple user accounts for a future OS update.

Press pics of Huawei W1 with Windows Phone surface

The Huawei W1 hasn't been exactly the best kept secret in the industry. We've seen some W1 live pics leaking, not long after we heard about the smartphone for the first time.
The Huawei W1 may be a looker but it's not a high-end device. It has a 4-inch WVGA screen, a 1.2GHz dual-core chipset with 512MB RAM, 5MP camera, and merely 4GB of on-board memory

HTC DLX for Verizon Wireless leaks out in live photos

Verizon Jetpack 890L 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot review

For road warriors, relying on the goodwill of others to provide you with reliable internet access is a risky proposition. Sure, many cell phones can be used as Wi-Fi hotspots but that too can often be hit or miss. Enter the Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot 890L by ZTE.
With an MSRP of $19.99 (with a two-year contract) the Jetpack 890L sports super-fast 4G LTE data speeds. We tested the Jetpack 890L in the San Francisco Bay Area including South San Francisco and Oakland and routinely achieved download speeds around 5 Mbps and upload speeds upwards of 3 Mbps.
Of course, the speed of your particular connection is dependent upon the strength of your cellular connection. For instance, when using the device as a mobile hotspot on the San Francisco Bay Ferry (in the middle of the Bay) even though we were connected our speeds were dramatically slower.

LCD screen, more batteries for iPad Mini allegedly leak

When it rains, it pours, especially leaked parts related to Apple's soon-to-be-announced iPad Mini tablet.
Photos purportedly showing the almost 8-inch LCD screen that will front the new tablet, plus more shots of its batteries, appeared Tuesday.
The pics come courtesy of ETrade Supply, a smartphone parts supplier, and show the original equipment manufacturer pieces in what appears to be a factory setting.
Nothing new is revealed, though the leaks lend even further credence to claims the product exists.

Microsoft Surface announced – the company’s own Windows 8 tablet

HTC J Butterfly unveiled with full HD, 5-inch display

Photos of Sony Nexus X leak

Close window
The LG-made Nexus phone is a given but in the end, there might be something in that rumor that multiple manufacturers will be offering Nexus phones. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2 rumors fizzled out, but now there are two good looking photos of a Sony-made Nexus phone.
Judging by the title of the two photos uploaded to Picasa, it's called Sony Nexus X. While the pics might be fakes, they are at least very realistic-looking fakes.
Unlike the LG design, the front of the Sony Nexus doesn’t look like the current Galaxy Nexus, going for a traditional rectangular Xperia design. The photo of the back also suggests an arc curve, another trademark Xperia design element.

Leaked iPad Mini part numbers could reveal array of configurations

Leaked iPad Mini part numbers could reveal array of configurations

Just ahead of Apple's announcement Tuesday confirming a Mini-themed media event for next week, an exhaustive list of new product SKUs has leaked for what's believed to be the so-called iPad Mini.
Nearly every sign points to Apple introducing a junior version of its iPad tablet in San Jose, Calif. on Oct. 23, and judging from product SKU data leaked to AppleInsider, the device could come in as many as 24 configurations.
There are actually four different models in question: the P101, P103, P105 and P107, which are said to indicate an equal number of storage capacities.
If true, the smallest-capacity iPad Mini could debut with only 8GB of storage, a configuration which Apple has never offered on the larger 9.7-inch iPad, which starts at 16GB.

Google Nexus for Sony leaked in new images?

Talk around the web has focused on the LG Nexus 4 a lot lately. In fact, there are whispers of a rumored Google/LG collaboration that would bring the Korean company into Google's notoriously off-limits Nexus fold.
However, photographic evidence of another Nexus manufacturer may have surfaced over the weekend, this time with Sony branding.
The images, reportedly taken with a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, popped up on Picasa and show off a handset filed as the "Sony Nexus X."
Both pics depict a Sony Android sans Xperia branding, a sign the images could be completely fake.

Asus unveils Padfone 2 with quad core CPU, NFC and LTE connectivity

The original Padfone was one of those ideas that seemed good in theory, but fell short once you got your hands on it. Rather than give up on the concept, Asus has returned to the drawing board to announce the Padfone 2 at an exclusive event in Taipei today.
Sporting a massive 4.7-inch 720p HD screen on the phone, the Padfone is loaded with top shelf components, from the quad-core Qualcomm processor, to the 2GB of RAM on board, to the 13MP camera.
The camera itself is capable of shooting 30fps 1080p video, 60fps 720p video or up to 100 continuous still shots at full resolution. The front facing 1.2MP camera isn't quite as highly specced, but should be good enough for a Skype call.

Nokia Lumia 822 photo and specs leaked

Fret not, Verizon subscribers, you are getting a Nokia Windows Phone 8 gizmo this season, as the Lumia 822 just leaked in a picture. While it might not be the Lumia 920 monster, the 822 is a nice midranger derived from the Lumia 820, but with seemingly more rounded corners, and Verizon branding, of course.

Google has update google maps into real

Google has updated 250,000 miles of roads around the world with new Street View footage.
The company is also increasing Street View coverage in a number of countries around the world, with more roads in the US, UK, Singapore, Sweden, Italy and Canada getting the nod.
As well as the road tripping, Google has added several new 'special collections' which feature photography of interesting and beautiful locations around the globe.
These include interior images of places like Elsinore Castle so you need never leave your home again, if you don't want to.

Virtual travels

Even iOS 6 users can get in on the updated Street View action thanks to Google's roll out of the photographical mapping to its web app, which many are relying on after the catastrophic communal shunning of Apple's own iOS 6 Maps App.
The new Street View updates are available from today. As usual, Google has selected a few highlights that you can hop to from its blog post, so if you've got that spectacular combination of itchy feet and laziness then you'll be quids in.

The Sharp SH-02 will launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Wireless charging accessories priced for Nokia Lumia 920 and 820

Wireless charging seems right on the verge of taking off, and Nokia may lead that "charge" (ha, ha) with the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820Windows Phone 8 devices.
Both phones were revealed in early September, and will be released on various carriers beginning in November.
The Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 don't have built-in wireless charging, but require a charging shell and base to achieve the function.
New details emerged on Thursday when Nokia announced pricing for the devices' wireless charging kits.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite UK release date confirmed for October 25

The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite e-reader will go on sale in the UK on October 25, the company has confirmed.
The new-and-improved 6-inch device, which boasts a built-in light to evenly illuminate the screen and a whopping 8 weeks of battery life, was announced for the US at the Kindle Fire event over a month ago.
At the time Amazon made no mention of a UK release for the Kindle Paperwhite, but has today opened online pre-orders for its 'most advanced reader ever,' with delivery coming two weeks from today.
The Wi-Fi only version of the device, which also has 62 per cent more pixels and 25 per cent better contrast, costs £109, while the Wi-Fi + lifetime free 3G option is £169.

Microsoft releases Office 2013 to manufacturers

Microsoft engineers have signed off on the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) build of Office 2013, the company announced in a blog post Thursday.
"This milestone means the coding and testing phase of the project is complete and we are now focused on releasing the new Office via multiple distribution channels to our customers and business customers," wrote Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president, Microsoft Office Division, on the Office blog.
Calling it the "most ambitious release of Office" ever undertaken, the family of applications are meant to marry with Windows 8, he continued.
Starting in mid-November, MSDN and TechNet customers can get ahold of a final build, The Verge reported, while a Volume Licensing release will launch at the same time.

The rest of us

According to Koenigbauer, regular folks will be able to get their hands on Office 2013 in the first quarter of 2013.
Starting Oct. 19, customers who purchase Office 10 from retailers and resellers will receive the newest Office for free when it becomes available.
A preview version of the new suite on Windows RT devices will happen alongside the Oct. 26 public launch of Windows 8, Koenigbauer wrote.

Hands on: Sony Vaio Duo 11 review

With Windows 8 moonlighting as both a tablet and desktop OS, the hybrid tablet-PC idea is one that's reared its head again.
Sony has jumped on this concept at IFA 2012 with the Sony Vaio Duo 11. The device is both an Ultrabook and a tablet – a 'handy' tablet as Sony explains in its press blurb.
Although this sounds like a concept that's going to add extra chunk in the hand, it really isn't.
Although when you lift the Sony Vaio Duo 11 it definitely has weight (1.3kg of it, which is a little heavier than the Microsoft Surface), it is a mere 17.85mm thin when flush and in its tablet state.
The tablet-laptop comes with a 11.6-inch full HD touchscreen panel (1920 x 1080), which you can prod away with using your own fingers, but there's also a stylus on board.
What with Samsung and its S-Pen functionality and Sony with its Duo pointer, the stylus is definitely back in fashion
